
Business activity
International freight transport represents DISCORDIA’s principle business. This includes capacity in all aspects of transport, forwarding and logistics activities as well as all other activities that include or facilitate the international transportation of goods. DISCORDIA is in a position to develop auxiliary activities and services supplementing transportation, provided that this entails economic advantage and a strong image upsurge for the company that indirectly translates into economic benefit. DISCORDIA does not develop other activities besides those connected with freight transport.
Management
DISCORDIA is a joint stock company (according to the Bulgarian legislation) managed by its Board of Directors.
DISCORDIA was incorporated in Varna.
The first two new automobiles SKODA were bought via credit. These are used for transport services to and from Eastern and Western Europe. By 1995 the motor fleet increased up to 20 automobiles produced in Eastern Europe.
In the severe conditions of the period of transition to market economy we focused our efforts in our survival as a company and strengthening of our market positions, rather than in growth or expansion. This period was used to collect and systemize data, gather experience, make conclusions and get to know the business opportunities in this area.
A decision to redirect the investments made in the motor fleet to be used for starting a shipping business was taken. A team of young and intelligent people possessing high morale, mainly University graduates having a good command of foreign languages was formed.
The first field office was opened in Russe. Within a very short time after its opening it won its fair market share in the transportation business, thus proving that the choice made was right.
In December 1996 the Sofia based office was opened.
In July 1997 the first overseas office of the company opened in the Ukraine - in Kiev.
A Railway Transport Department was established in Varna.
A Sofia-based Department of Container and Air Transport was opened.
We made a detailed research in the heavy-freight trucks market. Having taken into account all advantages we chose the Volvo Truck Corporation and purchased the first five vehicles, which comply with all the modern technical and environmental requirements. Another five vehicles we bought in 2000.
We applied to run the SRAFAS (Strategic Restructoring and Financial Advisory Services) Project a part of the EC Phare Program. We were the only Bulgarian company providing transport services which was approved. An 18-month program was carried out under the instruction of the Spanish “Idom” Company.
In January 2008, we have incorporated Discordia Romania in Cluj Napoca.
At the end of 2008 we bought our first own wagons type Hbills – 20 in total – second hand.
We have started a new business activity – franchising. We have received the first 20 trucks on the pilot project, which are operating under the brand Discordia.
We have implemented a comprehensive ERP system. The choice is Microsoft Dynamics NAV with vertical solution NaviTrans, which is the first for Bulgaria
We are the first Bulgarian company which has implemented Dynafleet - the fleet management system of Volvo.
We started a high-efficiency model for a significant growth of our own fleet over the long term until 2020.
We have strengthened an important internal company document. "The Upturn of DISCORDIA" is an overview of our values and future aspirations. It lays the foundations for Discordia's expansion to a leading supplier of international transport services in Southeast Europe.
A business plan 2017-2022 was presented in October 2016. The main growth targets in all existing departments and directions in Discordia for the next 5 years have been updated. Additional opportunities are also presented for expansion across Europe by acquiring other companies and launching new projects in the field of transport and logistics.
